You can make an appeal if you want to try and change a decision that has been made by the Assessment Board regarding your academic progress. Every student in the University has the right to make an appeal at appropriate times and if they have valid grounds. This can only be done by following certain procedures which the Union Support Service can explain fully to you
Appeals are most commonly made when a student fails a re-sit exam or a re-submitted piece of coursework. Or if you wish to re-sit your exams or re-submit your course work without your marks being capped.
“Dissatisfaction with the decision or academic judgement of the Assessment Board is not alone valid reasons for an appeal”
Senate regulation 20.1 taught appeals programmes June 2010
You must submit your appeal to the School Officer or most appropriate person within 28 days of the release of the results following the Assessment Board.
Basically, there are 3 different stages to the Appeals process
1) School Level appeal
2) University Level Review
3) Complaint to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education
These must be progressed through in this order. At each stage, your appeal must be made on one or more of the described grounds. Click on the relevant level to find out more
