Below are a few questions we would like you to answer to give us an understanding of what feedback means to you. • What do you think feedback is and why is it important to you? Would you like feedback on examinations?
Feedback continues to be one of the lowest scoring areas in the NSS at City University London. Currently, most students’ degrees have a significant proportion that is dedicated to exams. At the same time there is currently no policy within the university for students to receive feedback on their exam marks and grades. The Students’ Union is running a campaign “Hungry for Feedback” alongside the University to get students views on what they require from feedback and how it can help them improve their academic performance. Through this we hope to make it university policy that all students receive feedback from examinations.
• What might you find useful in terms of exam feedback? For example, should it be about exam technique (how well you answered the questions) or quality of answer (if you got the facts right) or both?
• When do you think exam feedback, particularly for summer exams, could be delivered?
• Should your result in an exam influence the type of feedback you get? E.g. should a student who needs to resit get different feedback from someone who doesn’t?
• Is feedback at the end of a module the best way to support your learning and development?
