Student living London
Moving to the capital can be pricey, especially if you're going to be living on a student budget. It's best to check out which areas are affordable - and safe - before you start looking in earnest. Generally speaking, willingness to travel will get you cheaper property to rent in London, unless you have financial support from parents and can live somewhere central.
To some extent, where you want to stay will depend on where you study; Camberwell is a popular haunt for art students for its close proximity to the art school, but those who are taking classes somewhere like the London School of Economics will find this more difficult because of its expensive Notting Hill location.
Outside of the city, Clapham is now a popular student district in the South West, with its buzzing social scene and decent transport links. There is also a good range of shops and supermarkets here and the common provides a pleasant green space for relaxing or studying.
Further north, Camden Town is the essential student postcode if you're more into the bohemian lifestyle. Camden is home to an eclectic mix of people from internationals to literary types, but also inexpensive terrace housing and a renowned pub and music scene.
The East of London owns more of an industrial edge, but trendy districts like Spitalfields continue to attract the student crowd. The famous market and old town feel makes for an appealing contrast to recent regeneration, including Nido Spitalfields, a huge tower block of ultra-modern student housing.
Overall, postcodes in the north and east seem to win in the popularity stakes, for combined affordability and a youthful vibe. There are always exceptions to the rule however, so it's worth exploring a few alternatives to seek out the best deal for you.
