Tuition fees

The union believes education is not for sale and that;

·         That post 16 education in the UK is increasingly geared towards the market, with costs transferred onto students and their families and quality and choice sacrificed to “efficiency” and the demands of the Business.

·         That the introduction of variable top up fees in 2006 represented a major step forward in the process of marketisation.

·         The commodification of higher education is a reactionary process that disproportionately affects the educational aspects of students from poorer backgrounds, reinforcing society’s class division.

·         Is against the lifting of the tuition fee cap.

Library

This year CULSU have secured:

1. 24 hour library

2. Reduction in Library Fines (for 7day loans) from 75p a day to 50p a day

3. Delivery of new 3 day loan

4. Extended opening hours to Hub, as student space to take breaks during extended library hours

We have successfully campaigned and secured students with a 24hour library during the Jan exam period and the May Exam Period in our main campus, Northampton Square.

We now hope to extend these hours to Cass Business School. To sign our petition please visit….(link to petition)

Free Wednesdays

We want to Campaign to keep Wednesday afternoon free from study so students can take part in Sports, extra Curricular activities, Enrichment Programmes or Paid Work.

If you want to support this, or if you have Wednesday afternoon lectures that prevent you from these activities, email education@city.ac.uk
