► NUS

The National Union of Students (NUS) is an organisation which helps to support all Students' Unions around the country who are affiliated to them.  Through this affiliation they help represent the interest of more than 7 million students.  Much like your own Union they are student led and have a democratically elected body called the National Executive Committee (NEC).

It campaigns nationally on behalf of all the affiliated students unions and promotes equality and diversity  and it also locally supports union with their own individual campaigns.

One great campaign that we encourage you to take part in is the ‘Snap it off’ Campaign. NUS created Snap it Off in response to concerns from students about how much energy is being wasted through unnecessary lighting. Not just on campus, but everywhere! It is very simple to get involved: if you see any lights on that you deem to be wasted energy, take a photo of it and either email or text it to NUS, who will upload it on to their website. All this and more can be found on http://snapitoff.nus.org.uk/latest/

If you are passionate about the environment we live, study and work in, then considering becoming an environmental champion at City. For more info, go to http://www.city.ac.uk/about/city-the-community-and-environment/city-and-the-environment/environmental-champions

Every year it holds a conference to which every affiliated University or College in the country sends delegates.  City holds an election to decide which students will go to this conference, there are usually around 6 positions.

NUS also arranges for specially negotiated deals, discounts and offers for students.  You can access these by purchasing an NUS Extra Card at the cost of £11.  For one year this entitles you to discounts in many of the high street shops as well as online brands such as Amazon.

You can also purchase an internationally recognised student card call the ISIC card which entitles you to discounts in over 100 countries.  If you purchase this card online with the NUS Extra card you could make a substantial saving.

They also produce a proof of age card call a PASS card.  Instead of you having to carry round a passport or driving license to prove your age the PASS card is a nationally recognised form of age identification.

To purchase these cards online go to www.nus.org.uk

Or you can visit our office in Northampton Square.  (Please note only the NUS Extra Card can be purchase in person)
